I'm having problems logging into Instagram. How do I fix it?
Sometimes, when logging into Instagram, you get several errors. In some instances, it is usually easy to fix. Other times, it is difficult and seems frustrating, or worse still, almost impossible (oh, I have been there before!). You need to act swiftly but very carefully in order not to loose your account permanently. If you have a problem logging into Instagram, there is no need to panic. I have listed out simple steps you could take to rectify this problem in this article.
I believe in sorting out the cause of the problem before attempting to proffer a solution. Now, let us move on to listing out the various causes of the Instagram login problem. This will go a long way in fixing the Instagram login error.
Causes of Instagram login problem
There are several reasons why you get a login problem on Instagram. Some of the most common reasons are
- Poor network connection. If your network connection is not stable, you could get the “sorry we couldn’t process your request” error.
- You might be inputting the wrong password. Remember that passwords are case sensitive.
- Irrelevant Instagram username. You could be getting the spelling of the Instagram username wrongly.
- The time and date on your device may be incorrect.
- Using a new device not recognised by Instagram. (This is applicable most times when you have the two-step verification enabled on your account).
- It could be a problem with your Instagram app if you are using the Instagram app on an android or IOS phone. It usually occurs when your phone’s memory is low, causing the app to malfunction.
- Your device may be too old and unable to support the Instagram app.
- The worst-case scenario is that your account may have been blocked or deleted!
Having listed out the possible causes of Instagram log in problem, it will be easier to find a solution based on the causes.
How to fix Instagram Login Problem
No matter the cause of the Instagram login error you are getting, it can still be fixed! However, if your account has been deleted, then it will be almost impossible (totally impossible) to retrieve it back. Don’t even think of contacting Instagram support centre for help! You’ll most probably get a reply when all the waters in the seas get dried (LOL). If you are lucky enough to get one, it’s either an automated reply or you won’t get a proper follow-up.
Here are some easy steps you could take to rectify an Instagram login error.
- Check your password.
If you are getting “wrong password”, then check to be double sure that your Instagram password is correct. If you think you have forgotten your password, then click on ‘get help signing in’ just below the login box. Follow the promptings to reset your password. A password reset mail will be sent to you. If you can’t see the mail, check your spam folder
If you do not want to reset your password, then you can also sign into Instagram from Facebook if you already have your Instagram and Facebook account linked. Check if your Facebook and Instagram accounts are linked (Stop whatever you are doing and do that right now!). If no, link them right away to prevent future difficulties.
- Restart your device.
Sometimes, the solution to Instagram login error is as simple as restarting the device. Try closing the app and restarting your tablet or mobile phone. If it is an error in communication between Instagram servers and your device, then this should fix the problem.
- Update your Instagram app
It could also be that you need to update your Instagram app on your mobile device. You could just uninstall the current one and download another from the google play store (You’ll be downloading the latest version of the app by default).
- Check your network connection.
Check to be double sure that your network connection is stable. If you are using wi-fi, then check to make sure that it is very strong.
- Signing in from different devices
To check if the fault is with your device, then you can try signing in from different devices. If two-step authentication is enabled on your account, then you will need some form of validation if you are signing in from another device not recognised by Instagram. A code will be sent to the phone number or email address attached to your account. Simply input the code and you are good to go! However, I would advise you to be careful with the devices you use in logging into Instagram. If it’s not yours, then make sure your login details are not stored on the device. Also, after a successful sign in with the code, a pop up comes asking you if the device should be remembered when logging in subsequent times. Do not allow this if the device isn’t yours.
- Clear app cache
The app cache on your mobile device may have been corrupted causing the malfunction. To fix this, you have to clear the app cache and all data on your mobile phone. To do this, go to settings, click on ‘apps and notifications’, select Instagram, look for ‘clear cache and data’ and do just that. ‘Force stop’ the app or uninstall better still. After that, try signing in through a PC if you need to access your account immediately. If not, then you could just wait and try again on your mobile phone.
